Nourish a Neighbour
Food Security Campaign
Nourish a Neighbour this winter season with a tax deductible donation to CCSS. Your generosity will provide healthy meals and nourishing food boxes to Cumberland children, families & seniors in 2026.
Food insecurity is at a record high in Canada, and our small village is feeling the effects. According to Food Banks Canada’s 2025 Poverty Report Card, the number of Canadians living in food-insecure households has risen from 18% to 25% in just two years, an alarming 39% increase. Behind those numbers are families, seniors, and individuals struggling to afford basic groceries. Food insecurity isn’t just about a lack of food, it affects people’s health, well-being, social connection, and overall quality of life.
Here in Cumberland, CCSS Food Programs play a crucial role in ensuring all residents have reliable access to nutritious food. Each month, our Healthy Food Program prepares more than 5,200 meals, with nearly one-quarter provided free of charge to low-income families. Through the Cumberland Food Share, we deliver bi-weekly hampers to 77 households — reaching 221 children, adults, and seniors across our community.
These programs do more than fill cupboards. They offer stability, dignity, and connection. But this year, we’re facing unprecedented pressures. Rising food prices, growing demand, and less available grant funding mean we may need to scale back services unless we raise the resources needed to sustain our operations.
Our Winter Goal: Raise $65,000 between November 1, 2025 and January 31, 2026.

Archie’s Match for Cumberland
A big shout out to local realtor Archie Pateman for his incredible generosity and community spirit. Archie’s matching campaign truly took off, reaching its goal ahead of schedule and raising an impressive $6,155, including his $3,000 match. His early success highlights just how powerful community support can be.
But here’s the twist—Archie’s campaign was originally scheduled to run until December 17. That means there’s still time, and a unique opportunity, for others to step in and keep the momentum going.
So here’s the challenge to our community: Who wants to jump in and match donations next? Will it be one local hero? A whole team of them?
Archie’s ready to pass the torch—who’s grabbing it?
