Thunderballs 2024

Annual Thunderballs event returns Monday May 20th!

The Cumberland Community Schools Society’s annual Thunderballs fundraiser is returning to Dunsmuir Avenue on May 20th, immediately before the Victoria Day Parade. This token lottery involves releasing 4,000 golf balls to roll down the street in an exciting race to win one of 20 fabulous prizes, including one round trip flight for two guests to any regularly scheduled and marketed WestJet destination. Other prizes include cash, mini-vacations, festival tickets, local food gift cards, and more.

Proceeds from the event support CCSS’ charitable work in the community including healthy meals and food hampers to residents facing food insecurity, along with barrier free recreational programs. Thunderballs is the Society’s biggest fundraiser, and plays a vital role in funding operations. “The success of this event is key to ensuring we can continue to meet the growing needs of our dynamic community”, says Sue Loveless, Executive Director. “Over the past year we have seen a significant increase in demand for our services as residents struggle to navigate the high cost of living. Our goal is to raise $55,000 through Thunderballs sponsorships and ticket sales to ensure we can continue to provide these essential programs”.

Over sixty local businesses have generously stepped up to support the event, through financial contributions and donations of prizes. Gold sponsors include Cloutier Matthews Chartered Professional Accountants, Knappet Industries, Dodge City Cycles, Hyland Precast, Facet Custom Builders, First Credit Union and WestJet.

Thunderballs tickets are 1 for $10, or 5 for $40 and available from CCSS staff and board members, Moon’s Records, Seeds Food Market, Alley Cuts Salon, and Hyland Precast office. Tickets will also be available at the CCSS Market Day Booth, Saturday May 18th (while quantities last).
